Undoubtedly, social media has gained its popularity nowadays, having a huge impact on people’s lives. There are advantages and disadvantages of using social media. In my opinion, I do not think that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages since it depends on people how they have been using it whether for purposeful aspects of just waste of time. I am going to explain both sides of the use of the social media.
To commence with, limited but with positive intentional use of social media benefits the users. If someone is using Facebook or messenger for staying connected, and sharing love, and appreciation for distance relationship are some of the best examples of using social media channels. Additionally, Tik Tok, Instagram, and YouTube offer ideal platforms to launch e-commerce business, explore new culture, and enhance knowledge, eventually enriching people with abundance of opportunities. In fact, it has been so much convenient for both sellers and buyers as online services have been provided. Social media not only helps us keep ourselves aware of what is happening around the world but also allows us to be in touch with our loved ones if used properly.
Although there are many advantages of using social media, disadvantages come along with it. One of them is people tend to misuse digital platforms more than use them wisely. For instance, I can see young generation spending a lot of time watching videos, and playing games on a bus, public places such as park, waiting rooms not having interaction at all. Moreover, it has been proved that excessive use of screen affects the brain which cause memory loss, and mental health issues. However, people have been addicted to social channels even if they know it is detrimental to their health.
In conclusion, despite the fact that social networking sites have benefits for some reasons, they have not been the exceptional case which can be free from disadvantages. Therefore, how useful it is, is determined by the individual who is using it. There is no possibility of outweighing each other since it totally depends on people.
