Band 5+: The use of social media is replacing face-to-face interaction among many people in society. Do you think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?

Many people in society are using social media to keep in touch in place of face-to-face conversation. I think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages because it saves a lot of time and made our life simple.

On one hand, social media helps to communicate easily and to save our time that allows us to focus on more important tasks. In the modern world, families and friends may often be separated across the world due to work or study commitments, so it’s quite impossible for them to have face-to-face interaction. For instance, social media (Facebook, WhatsApp , Viber) helps those people to meet virtually and save their time and money to do other productive works. Furthermore, digital media facilitates information transport in terms of working and education which helps the students and workers to gain knowledge from international websites and provide a different experience. For example, Coursera, an international online based school that provide different types of course for the learners.

On the other hand, overuse of social media have some negative impact, such as, decrease in face-to-face interaction, and cyber crimes. Young people due to the dependency on social media while communicating which results in the lack of emotional connection as well as they face difficulties while expressing their emotions to others, which are the basic standards of human. Moreover, providing a lot of personal information on the social media might hamper individuals to get involved in cyber crimes. Cybercriminals could, for example, take advantage of your data and use it to fraud you for money.

In conclusion, the power of social media is definitely playing an important role for development but at the same time people in the society should be aware by limiting the number of hours in using the social sites specially amongst the childrens
