These days, social media plays an important role in our lives. It is true that face-to-face communication is being replaced with social media platforms. I personal believe this tendency has both positive and negative effects, but the advantages are more significant.
On the one hand, there are some positives of social media. First of all, it is an powerful communication tool which allows individuals to stay connected with their families, friends and colleagues. For example, students studying abroad can keep in touch with their parents by using Facebook, Zalo or various other apps. Secondly, social media platforms help people to share their ideas, experiences and opinions. If individuals have some apps such as Instagram or Pinterest, they can use them to post their moments and their feelings in different places.
On the other hand, I would argue that the advantages of social media are aclipsed by the disadvantages. The first drawback is that social media can increase the feelings of anxiety, depression and isolation. The frequent use of social media affects the style of speaking which make individuals feel confused when communicating with their friends or colleagues. As a result, they easily get isolated or nervous in the community. Furthermore, the environment in social media can create a false sense of reality. If people spend too much time browsing social networks, they will get addicted and tend to avoid to communicate with both their families and friends.
In conclusion, although there are several drawbacks of social media, the benefits are more significant.
