People in contemporary world are likely to use social media instead of face-to-face interaction to communicate. I advocate that the advantages of this trend outweigh the disadvantages
On the one hand, there are a number of drawbacks relating to the phenomenon. Firstly, interacting via social media could exacerbate the social isolation. Some people in nowadays society do not care about other people and they just want to stay at home and chatting with friends. Therefore, some individuals who are lack of direct communication could have a risk of being depression and long-term stress. Secondly, most of people, especially adolescents have neglected meaningful relationships and just focused on virtual world so they do not have true friends who are reliable and supportive. This may be the reason why many people have a quantity of friends, however, they are often in sadness and stay alone.
Despite those disadvantages mentioned above, I firmly believe that this phenomenon has a elephantine number of benefits surpassing the negative effects. First and foremost, with instant communication, people could interact with other individuals worldwide. Thus, they would form more friendship and could find some important people with their future life. Moreover, social media is one of the easiest way to gain information about other parts of the world including cultures, cuisines, etc. Secondly, it is also the mean of acquiring new languages instead of going to foreign countries. Social media also provides opportunity for individuals in remote area to study and connect with the outside world .
In conclusion, although social media still has some drawbacks associating with the increase in social isolation and depression, I believe that these are outweighed by a number of positive effects which are instrumental in the effort of providing studying opportunities and the decrease in the gap between people and people in different nations
