Recently, cosmetic surgery has been a hotly debated topic. Many believe that this is a positive trend that enhances people’s outward appearance. In contrast, others remain cynical about the loss of true beauty’s value that it may cause, therefore want it to be forbidden. Considering my assessment, I agree with the second idea, given these following reasons.
To begin with, cosmetic surgery is a risky process. While this industry firmly remains its flamboyant facade and promises of beauty, the real risks, on the contrary, are often hidden from the media. In this era, when it’s harder to tell between truth and lie, it’s easier for people to believe in charlatans who call themselves qualified doctors, then pay the price by their appearance and even their lives. In the last decade, in Vietnam, a woman was deceased this way, which shocked the whole community.
Additionally, the standard of beauty changes over time. Centuries ago, a woman was considered as beautiful if she was a little bit chubby, which is far different from today’s ideal beauty. Consequently, it is unpredictable that what kind of appearance will be the trend, but it probably what is presently called ugly. This questions the actual necessity of cosmetic surgery.
Lastly, one should appreciate their natural beauty. Instead of following the cosmetic surgery trend, which may be detrimental and costs a fortune. One should be satisfied with their original look, despite people’s prejudice. Life includes many mean people. If they can’t laugh at your appearance, they can just mock other aspects of yours. Therefore, we should ignore all unkind comments and pursue personal fulfillment by striving for improvements and spending time with those who cherish you for who you are.
Ultimately, one shouldn’t fall for the promise of the beauty industry, then mindlessly chase after the temporary standard, and forget to recognize the true value. Our appearance can never prevent us from achieving good things in our lives, it’s just us getting distracted by evil comments. Living in a society full of such words, one should always remind themselves that the perpetual value is on their heart.
