It is often argued that there is less communication between the younger generation and older people. This is partly due to the different lifestyles of young people and elderly people, as well as the rapid development of technology. This essay will discuss the main causes of this issue, including why young people interact less with older people and what the causes of this situation are.
One main reason is that youngsters have less contact with older people; rapid technological development may also contribute. In this rapidly developing world, young people often prefer to communicate via smartphones, whereas elderly people tend to favour face-to-face conversations. This is because technology was not as advanced when older generations were growing up, so they were accustomed to communicating with others in person. In fact, the Uzbek expression “Every meeting is precious”, which emphasizes the value of meeting and spending time with loved ones, is particularly popular among older people.
Another major contributing factor is that nowadays young people work and study abroad; they live in another home or another country. As a result, it is difficult to communicate with family members, and they have less time due to their educational and work commitments. More alarmingly, young people often have little time to visit their families because of their studies and work commitments, which can also lead to less frequent face-to-face interactions and reduced contact with elderly people. For example, in the United States, many young people move out of their parents’ homes after the age of 18 and work while studying, so they may find it difficult to make time to visit their family members, particularly elderly relatives.
To tackle this issue, young people should spend time communicating with the elderly and to arrange different kinds of meetings. Consequently, it helps to strengthen the family bonds between older and younger generations. This trend is particularly evident in Uzbekistan; youngsters often visit elderly relatives to check on their well-being, bringing various things such as homemade dishes and baked goods. They also engage in face-to-face conversations, which helps strengthen their relationships and family bonds.
In conclusion, young adolescents are finding it difficult to make time to visit and communicate with elderly people because of technological advancements and their busy schedules. However, if they set aside some time from their use of technology, work, and studies to visit older relatives, this could be beneficial for both generations and help strengthen their relationships.
