The first and major reason why teenagers pay more attention to computer games than sports is that playing games is more fascinating, while playing sports is physically exhausting. Because after hard-working studying hours at school as well as dealing with a large number of homework, they almost have a feeling of mental exhaustion and do not intend to do anything except look for their relaxation. As a result, they will come up with the idea of playing esports in order to unwind their mind instead of participating in outdoor sports, which is very tiring.
Secondly, another factor why many children would rather play games than take part in outdoor sports is that many parents do not allow their child to go out and join outdoor sports. This is because they are afraid that their children are in danger. One of them will become victims of social evils and criminals when they encounter kidnappers and rapists. In the worst-case scenario, children are likely to have traffic accidents accidentally and even get seriously injured to their body. Consequently, children have no choice but to give up going out and go on allocating their time to a range of computer games.
I am firmly convinced that there are numerous detrimental aspects of immersing themselves in the virtual world rather than engaging in outdoor activities and sports. First of all, when they play games too much, they may confuse the virtual world as the form of behavioral problems relating to violence and aggression. Hence, they will consider such illegal actions as a norm and apply them to real life. Secondly, they are prone to suffer from medical problems because of a sedentary lifestyle, no movement but always staring at the screen of devices. This leads to physical and mental problems such as obesity, cardiovascular disease, and near-sightedness, particularly. This is why many youngsters in developed countries, such as the USA, often have obesity disease. Another drawback worth mentioning is that teenagers tend to be weak at essential life skills such as communication skills. Because they almost focus solely on esports but do not spend their time on interacting with their peers as well as experiencing the other exciting things in life. Consequently, they are probably lacking in general vision about the surrounding world and more prone to be isolated from the community.
In conclusion, the fascination of computer sports as well as parents’ excessive concern about their child’s safety lead to the phenomenon that children spend a lot of time on computer games and little on sports. This also negatively impacts their life, such as confusing the virtual and real world, having potential risks to their health, and the weakness of necessary life skills such as communication.
