It is commonly believed that the excessive purchasing of common consumer products are due to the effect of commercials rather than what people actually have a need for or not. I completely agree with this view as I believe that it manipulates people by setting trends and using their desire of imitating their celebrities.
The first reason that explains my idea is that
advertises aim to set a vogue among people. To explain, a good advertising could play with human psychology stimulating them to buy certain product and the audience are tempted to buy it in the hope that they can become participant of the fad. To put it another way, producers are aiming to convince consumers buying their products using smart advertising which focus on so many features that in fact is not the real requirement of most of the consumers. For example, consider the trend of using expensive and trendy smartphone. While some may genuinely require the newest added features and capabilities of such devices, others may simply influenced by social pressure others may be simply influenced by social pressure to own the latest and most popular trend. Most of the time people just change their phones to look affluent and show them to their friends that they can afford them.
There other reason why advertising increase selling of popular products is that it is usually use influencers in their products promotions. To explain, There is a an instinct of being like celebrities among individuals and it affects their purchases. This knowledge is used by promoters when they offer products on the market. So, Advertisement with media personalities is very attractive to consumers and even if they know that the purchase will be useless, they do it because some celebrities advertise it. As a result, To illustrate there is a clear figure for the sales rates of Rexona company which were grown significantly approximately 50 % after the advertising of their goods by Ronaldo.
In conclusion, I completely agree that the excessive purchasing of products are due to the effects of commercial rather than what people need. This is done by adopting and forming trends and change of cultural norms. This is because they are now creating artificial needs and manipulate consumer preference by using smart messages and other techniques to convince consumers subconsciously to buy products that they may not really want.
