Although the world is developing rapidly, there is an increase of loneliness because behaviors such as being anti-social and lacking respect towards others are spreading like a virus in this new world, leading to a rise in loneliness. In this essay we will discuss the underlying causes of these behaviors, such as nuclear family, greed for more wealth, and imbalance of work and family time, and provide effective and practical solutions.
There are a wide variety of reasons why these bad manners are growing steadily. First and foremost is the breaking up of the joint family and the creation of nuclear families more and more. This has created distance between children and elderly people, such as very few children have spent their childhood with their grandparents. This way children don’t feel any affection and respect towards elderly people. Secondly, because of the greedy society mindset, young people see elderly people as a burden; they do not see any profitable use for them, so they do not show any care or respect towards them. For example, many children leave their parents in their last stage of life because they cannot provide anything for children; rather, taking care of parents costs money, and children become selfish and leave them. Moreover, greedy people are becoming workaholics and forgetting to give time to their family to get more wealth than he need. For instance , many people to overtime for more money although they have enough. This way they are forgetting that the most important asset one can have is a good family, and their children is not learning about moral values and good manners. This way they are setting a bad example for the future generations. Another reason is people nowadays are facing cyberbullying, where it has become a cool thing for children to mock elder people. Therefore, new generations are not learning good attitudes towards respecting others.
To address these issues, one viable solution is people should go back to tradition and start living in a joint family in this way they will have wisdom and knowledge from elder people and will learn to respect others. Secondly, the government should strictly maintain the 8-hour-working-day rule. This way people can give extra time to their family where they can teach children good manners and children will feel empathy and love towards parents. Numerous evidence exists to support the effectiveness of this solution. One Oxford research study shows children who had good quality of family time in their childhood show more respect and care compared to those who spent most of their childhood in front of media such as TV, computers, and so on.Therefore, by implementing these solutions, we can have a harmonious and caring society.
