The issue of damaging the local area by tourism has been widely debated among many individuals. To some extent, I disagree with this idea because of its effect on the local economy and job opportunities, while changing the cultural norms and disturbing the environment are remarkable points to be mentioned.
The first and most important reason for my disagreement with this point of view is the impact that tourists have on the country’s economy. This is due to the fact that visitors bring money to the area to spend, leading to an injection of money into people’s lives. The more money they spend, the more welfare and prosperity the area will have. Another reason I advocate for supporting my idea is the wide range of job opportunities. To illustrate, tourists need accommodations and hotels to stay, resulting in the construction of new places to accommodate them, which can provide job opportunities for local people, which is really beneficial for them and stimulates the economy.
Although some people believe that tourists can cause industrial growth and have positive contributions to the economic situation, I feel that cultural change can be a detrimental aspect of the issue. To make it clear, tourists can change local people’s cultural and social norms. For instance, if they bring a specific piece of clothing to the area to wear, it can lead targeted individuals to accept it as normal clothing, which they did not used to wear. Lastly, environmental impacts are another reason that can be mentioned regarding the current issue. For example, in some cases it is observed that tourists throw their garbage at historical sites or that they not only go on top of the sites to take photos but also write graffiti on the walls, meaning that they do not respect the value of those tourist attractions.
Overall, it appears to me that while contributions to the destruction of nature and culture can be regarded as logical reasons for concern regarding this issue, the economic benefits to society and the creation of more job positions are also worth considering in this regard.
