Universities offer wide variety of courses and subjects irrespective of gender. At present, in many univesities their might be classes with unequal number of male and female students. Should this situation be normalized? Or should universities try to enroll equal number of male and female students in every subject? I strongly disagree with this considering below mentioned reasons.
Firstly, universities should accept the students by evalutating their knowledge pertaining to that subject, which indeed will help to maintain the compitativeness within the students. This will also help to maintain the decoram of the class.
The other equally important aspect is, that interest of male and female students might be different wrt to a subject. For example, in most cases subjects related to mechanical engineering are opted more by male students compared to female and homescience is opted mostly by female students. In such cases it will be difficult to maintain the equal number of male and female students.
On the other hand, by maintaining equal number of male and female students,universties push the students to pusrse a cousre irrespective of gender oriented intersest, which might help the future generation in normalising areas of interest irrespective of gender. There are female students who wish to study mechinical engineering but due to increased compitition within male students they might not be able get into it and vice versa with respect to home science.
To put things together, knowledge and area of interest should play a key role while accepting students by the universities rather than gender. Inorder to encourage both the genders to take any subjects, universities can rather keep minimum percentage of both male and female students for every subject. It is better to have a class full of interested students rather than class of equal number of male and female students .
