Universities today offer a broad range of majors and courses, allowing students to improve their knowledge in their favorite field of work. In the older days, some majors were restricted to a certain gender, or it was inappropriate for women to study in some majors, but nowadays, any man or any woman can pursue their education freely. I personally believe that there should not be a restriction on universities acceptance criteria based on gender.
For many years, most of the practical jobs like technicians and engineering belonged to men, but with the advancements in culture and society, women also started to take part in those jobs. If we look at these women, we can see that they do their jobs as well as a man and maybe in some cases better than a man. So it is not acceptable to judge a person’s work based on their gender.
Considering these factors, it is unfair to admit students based on gender or to keep a gender balance. An applicant must be examined and admitted based on his/her resume and educational capabilities. The requirements and standards for a university major are defined and agreed upon. Anyone meeting those requirements deserves to enroll in that course and continue education.
All in all, I strongly believe that fairness and justice in education, especially gender equality, is very important, and universities should follow a merit-based admission system which treats male and female applicants equally. Even if this approach may present a situation where all students of a certain major are male or female.
