In this developing digital era, everyone has easy access to various things on the internet or television. Even though this opportunity is beneficial for so many reasons, it also has drawbacks that cannot be ignored, such as presenting news or scenes of wars, racism, and crimes on TV, which absolutely affect some age groups, including kids or teenagers, in a negative way. So, many people are of the opinion that these kinds of things on television ought to be restricted for those under 18. I strongly and completely agree with that point of view due to the fact that it can lead to violence and aggressive behavior or the development of fear and anxiety in the young generation.
First and foremost, the reason why violence should be banned on screens is the aggression and violence problems it can cause. We know that the young generation are a mirror of ourselves—what we do or show, they reflect. If they see or watch crime-related scenes on TV, they are more likely to do, in other words, repeat them exactly as they see them. They may start to consider aggression and harmful behavior as normal or acceptable. For example, a six-year-old boy who saw domestic violence, in which a person mistreats his domestic animals, will definitely try this action. That is the most simple example; there are so much worse than this.
Furthermore, constantly watching violence scenes on television might also lead children to develop fear or anxiety. In clearer words, children will conclude that this world is more dangerous than it really is. Psychologically, this kind of fear is considered the worst trauma that a child can have because this will give rise to other psychological problems during their lifetime. Fearful and anxious children will encounter hardships, and for most of them, it is really challenging to get rid of it.
In conclusion, although computer programs are helping children to develop and be entertained, scenes of crime or violence negatively affect the young generation—children and teenagers—by shaping harmful behavior and fears over time. So, it is better not to let them watch and to ban violence completely on TV programs that children and teens watch every day.
