Same-sex marriage is most common to countries developed countries such as Europe, United States of America and Australia. The reason why it is common is because these countries are adaptable to change and promote equality in every aspect of human beings, especially when we talk about gender-based equality. Legalizing same-sex marriage in a developed country took years and even decades for the policies to become a law. It took a lot of hard work and social actions from the LGBTQIA++ community to fight for their rights and for future generations to be able to enjoy and benefit. However, in some other countries most specifically religious countries are against with same-sex marriage as it contradicts their spiritual beliefs. In this essay, I will discuss the different point of view of different countries in regards with legalizing same-sex marriage.
In one hand, developing countries are most likely to disagree with legalizing same-sex marriage. Religious countries such as Malaysia and Indonesia do have a strict violation of same-sex relationships. It is considered as sin to be in a relationship with the same sex and it was written in the Quran or stated in the Biblical scriptures. In addition, this point of view is based on their religious belief or their relationship to the supreme being.
On the other hand, in most developed countries, same-sex marriage is related to social change. The society has been open to change that comes to the point that homosexuality is perfectly viewed as the same as male/female. Policy makers decided to legalize same-sex marriage few years back to promote equality in all genders. For example in Australia, we don’t use the word “sex” but rather use the word “gender”. In every documents/forms to filled up there’s an option such as “non-binary”.
To sum it all up, people do have different point of view in legalizing same-sex marriage. Some do have lack of knowledge about it, some also abides with their spiritual beliefs and some are open to societal change as it will help to promote equality all over the world. I believe that change is inevitable and all we have to do is to adapt. The developed countries did it step ahead and I believe that developing countries will open their knowledge and follow few decades from now.
