Some believe that luck is the primary factor in achieving one’s goals. However, I disagree with this opinion for two main reasons.
One of the principal reasons why luck cannot affect goal achievement in the majority of cases is that self-discipline and gradual improvement of skills play a crucial role in reaching goals. Luck can only influence a small number of fortunate circumstances, and the result cannot be repeated many times, but, with steady practice, it is expected to be significant progress in a certain skill or task. Therefore, making efforts regularly, a person is more likely to get a positive outcome and achieve their goals. For instance, if the goal is to pass an exam successfully, the most efficient tactic would be to prepare for it with a fixed timetable rather than to rely on fortune.
In my opinion, the best way to significantly improve the chances of reaching success with an aim is to find a proper goal-setting method. In some cases, even the luckiest people fail to achieve their goals due to unclear planning, lack of an efficient strategy, wrong time setting, or absolutely irrelevant goals. For example, according to the widespread goal-setting method called “SMART,” each aim should be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound. Otherwise, without one of these components, a person may become misguided or self-deceptive, trying to reach an unrealistic goal.
In conclusion, well-developed self-discipline and an accurate goal-setting method contribute far more effectively to goal achievement than luck, which only helps with a limited number of situations.
