People have different opinions about whether global warming poses a threat or whether deforestation is having a significant impact on our planet. In my view, either of them contributes significantly to disrupting environmental sustainability and requires concerted efforts to solve them.
Proponents argue that increasing greenhouse emissions is becoming one of the most concerning problems. Ongoing global warming is linked to rising sea levels and a depleting ozone layer, putting dangers to the earth by making it inhabitable year by year. If global warming continues to rise rapidly, it can take a toll on human health, not only affecting the earth but also causing diseases such as chronic high blood pressure, especially among old people.
Deforestation, on the other hand, emerges as another serious environmental problem that is caused by tree clearing projects for agricultural as well as land expansion purposes and also unmanageable bush fires. These human practices and natural disasters tend to destroy vast green areas, leaving numerous implications for both wildlife and humanity. Taking impacts on flora and fauna into consideration, deforestation undoubtedly disrupts biodiversity on a large scale and contributes to the extinction of some rare animals. A case in point is deer and bonaboo monkeys, animal species that only survive in forests where rich vegetation can be found. Moreover, the entire population can also be affected, as deforestation caused by fire generates a high level of hazardous chemicals impacting human health. For example, when California State faced a wide-scattering forest blaze, the nearby neighborhoods were choked by gases, making it impossible to find clean air. As a result, dwellers suffered from continuous shortness of breath due to the long-lasting effects of fire.
Personally, I would argue that all kinds of environmental problems, be they pollution or deforestation, seem to be pretty devastating, putting humanity in danger. Carbon dioxide produced mainly by vehicles and factories contaminates the ecology and gets trapped in the atmosphere, harming air quality. The deforestation, however, serves as a catalyst to shrink the natural habitats of animal species, which in turn causes them to die out. Interestingly, it is the practices mostly carried out by people to damage the environment; however, it is also in the hands of humans who can stop making it worse.
In conclusion, surging greenhouse gases and deforestation are believed to be two of the of the most catastrophic issues with equally significant consequences. As global warming results in the depletion of the ozone layer and the rise of sea levels, deforestation is responsible for diminishing animal species and polluting the atmosphere if caused by fire.
