The Pros and Cons of Universities Admitting Many International Students
Schools in the UK that host a big number of international students may experience both advantages and disadvantages. Cultural diversity is one of the main benefits. Students from various countries introduce new thoughts, customs and ways of seeing things. As a result, learning becomes more interesting. In my university, we often had group discussions with international students which allowed everyone to learn about the subject from different viewpoints.
There is also the advantage of financial help. Paying more tuition, international students help universities develop improved facilities and research projects. Having more money can help all students receive a better education. Because there are many international students, one UK university was able to construct a new library and research center.
Still, there are some problems with them. Because there are so many international students, local students may find it more difficult to be admitted. Sometimes, students have trouble with language and understanding a new culture which can interfere with their ability to learn.
All in all, universities win from having international students, but they should also help local students and give support to those who are new to the country. Everyone should benefit from an approach that is both balanced and includes everyone.
