Many young students prefer joining an apprentice college instead of attending university, which makes these students independent while working and get hired for a job in few years. However, these benefits are not able to outweigh the drawbacks of the system, which includes poor understanding of the concepts and lack of opportunities to progress in future.
On the one hand, these work-based institutes enable a student to understand the work and become an self-employed person at a very young age. They learn different skills that will be very handful for their working environment and earn enough stipend to fulfill their needs. Their industrial knowledge is also increases, which they can utilize for better career shaping. Moreover, after the completion of their course there are chances to be hired at a reputable organization because most of the industries prefer experience over education. For instance, many individuals in Pakistan who have completed such short courses are self-employed and can easily support their expenditures.
However, their concepts and career may be suffered in a long run. Although their practical knowledge of the field will be enough, but they may struggle at some point in solving complex problems. Since, they have not the understanding of tacking difficult situations, most of the times they will not be able to solve such an issue. Although they can easily get into the industry due to the basic understanding of workplace, but limited knowledge of the field will result in a hurdle for the growth of their careers. For example, many individuals get easily hired at reputable organizations because of their skills, but get stuck at a certain point throughout their life.
In conclusion, people who desire to go to become an apprentice must realize that they have to put a very little effort to enter an industrial setup; however, they must have to be prepared for hardships in their future.
