Youngsters can easily learn other people’s behaviors, especially their peers with whom they spend most of their time together. Although it is not acceptable that they influence each other well, I strongly believe that the upsides of peer pressure outweigh the downsides.
On the one hand, it is understandable that spending more time with friends and stay under pressure of them has some drawbacks. First of all, some teenagers cannot choose their friends correctly and they learn some bad habits which create a clash between family and the youngster. For instance, if he observes that his peers smoke, he will do the same thing. On the other hand, the young people believe in everyone except their family. It is risky that the unknown person may suggest something which is harmful, so it draws his attention and he will have a try.
Although it has cons such as gaining bad habits and believing in everyone, I assume that there are some pros as well. Firstly, if the youngs choose the right friends who have the features, namely intelligence, kindness and optimism, youngsters will get their characters. Secondly, spending time with peers regardless of having future plans and achieving dreams, inspire the youngs to do incredible things for improvement. It makes them interact with each other, and learn how he or she did it. Finally, the peers can influence each other’s mindset positively, so most young people think big, they do not limit themselves, and try to discover their potencials, even they collaborate and do great things together.
To sum up, while I admit that getting in touch of the peers has some harmful sides, however, I believe that upsides are more than the downsides.
