These days, outdoor activities like hiking and climbing in nature have decreased in popularity among youngsters. Although there are many factors that have contributed to this trend, I believe this issue can be resolved if the right approach is taken.
There are many reasons behind the phenomenon in which young people are not going out as they used to. Firstly, the development of technologies, especially the Internet. Various gadgets and applications, like delivery services, allowed people not to go outside for their needs, which has had an impact on people’s attitudes. Also, it has been scientifically proven that children in the past had fun playing outside with other kids, but nowadays they are on their smartphones all day. The second reason is that local areas of urban inhabitants have much more entertainment opportunities than they had in the past. As they are closer than nature, it is common sense for people to choose them over remote activities, like hiking.
While there are many reasons why this is the case, there are several potential steps that could be taken to address this trend. First of all, I would recommend running campaigns aimed at advertising outdoor activities. As many people use social media to choose their activity for their holidays, this could be the best way to persuade them to try outdoor ones. Secondly, governments could improve the locations of these outdoor activities. This includes, but is not limited to, improving infrastructure and adding more things that could be interesting to young people. For example, adding more fast food cafes could work.
In conclusion, outdoor activities are considered unpopular among the young generation, mainly because of technologies. However, there are many potential solutions, which could persuade them to spend their weekends outdoor hiking or climbing.
