Band 7+: some people think that advertising has positive economic effects oyhers think it has negative social effects because it will who they are and what they have discuss both views and give your own opinion

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In this day and age, advertisements have become powerful tools shaping the economy and customers’ behaviors. While some contend it provides beneficial stimulation of economic growth, others argue that advertising leads to detrimental consequences like dissatisfaction among individuals. This essay will elaborate on both perspectives before presenting my own viewpoint.

On the one hand, the advertisement industry plays an indispensable role in economic development. First and foremost, advertising is increasingly proven effective by many businesses due to significant increments in revenue. By launching multiple marketing campaigns, they introduce new products and services to the public, thereby boosting their sales remarkably. For example, CocaCola has done many different advertisements for centuries, making it one of the leading brands in drinks. Furthermore, advertisements encourage healthy competition. As the industry becomes more competitive, brands must upgrade their products’ qualities as well as prices to satisfy users’ needs. As a result, individuals now can be benefited by diverse choices of items with excellent applications and reasonable costs.

On the other hand, the social repercussions of advertisements can be worrisome. Ads can serve as a catalyst for artificial inadequacy for individuals. They often feature idealized lifestyle, luxury items which can make normal people feel insecure about their looks, possessions. Those can develop negative characteristics such as jealousy, or even a strong desire to possess others’ belongings, leading to a toxic society. Moreover, impulsive buying created by marketing campaigns could lead to overconsumption. The industry facilitates individuals’ desire for owning the latest items, resulting in excessive purchase without considering the true needs to catch up with the standard of happiness. The worse consequence could be manifested in personal financial strain or debt, and serve anxiety and lowered self-esteem.

In conclusion, advertisement functions as a double-edged sword. While its advantages contributed to the economic growth is undeniable, the detrimental consequences to society cannot be ignored. From my perspective, the key solution is not to hinder the development of advertising but to educate media users of consumer literacy implementing stricter regulations on manipulative marketing practices to safeguard social well-being while preserving economic momentum.
