It is argued that some people think individuals almost cannot conserve the environment through what they do while others think that individuals can support to preserve the environment. This essay will first closely examine both viewpoints before concluding that I agree with the latter
On the one hand, it is justifiable for some to claim that individuals change the environment through their actions. This is mainly because the environmental problems are usually caused by industrial activities. Companies have to expand their scope, or throw out waste without treating it, leading to environmental degradation. Small-scale actions cannot contribute insignificantly to protect the environment, compared to large-scale industrial damage. As a result, some people who do not observe the results, can doubt their actions, and they can give up.
On the other hand, people can positively change the environment. One major reason is that people make daily choices that can change industrial behaviors. Individuals recycling the rubbish, turning off the light after leaving home or using recycled products usually shape their habit. The culture of sustainability is formed by consumers’ habits, influencing the strategy of these companies. For example, many customers follow a green lifestyle so some food corporations shift in adopting sustainable practices such as using organic materials, recycled packages to promote customers to purchase. As a result, individuals contribute to protect the environment. In addition, people take part in public engagement to build campaigns, building collective pressure on governments. The government has to enforce stronger regulations related to the environment.
In conclusion, while there are justifications for individuals who cannot preserve the environment through their actions, I would contend that they are able to change these situations on their own.
