This post contains ideas and band-9 sample answers (audio included) for the Cambridge IELTS 10 Academic Speaking Part 1 Question 4 Test 4 question:
“How do you think your school could be improved? [Why/Why not?]”
Sample 1
While my school does a sterling job in terms of academics, it could certainly do with a wider range of extracurricular activities. I firmly believe that these non-academic pursuits are instrumental in shaping students’ personalities and enhancing their social skills. A greater focus on this aspect would provide a more well-rounded education.
Sample 2
I think my educational establishment could benefit from more robust student counseling facilities. This would provide students with the necessary support to navigate academic stress, personal issues, and career decisions. An empathetic counselor can make all the difference when it comes to student well-being.
Sample 3
While my school does an excellent job of providing a comprehensive academic curriculum, I believe there’s room for expansion when it comes to vocational courses. These practical skills-based classes, like coding or carpentry, would offer students more diverse options for their future careers.
Sample 4
One significant way my school could be augmented is by investing more in technological infrastructure. Nowadays, digital literacy is not just a buzzword, it’s becoming a requirement. My school is a bit behind in this regard. Consider, for example, our computer lab. It’s equipped with outdated machines which often run sluggishly. So, I believe an upgrade would greatly assist both students and teachers, particularly for subjects that require extensive online research or programming.
Sample 5
An area that I feel my school could work on is the emphasis on life skills. I mean, academic knowledge is important, but so are skills like financial literacy, time management, and communication. Including these in the curriculum could prepare students better for the real world. It’s about holistic development, I guess.
Sample 6
Honestly, I think one way my school could improve is by shifting the focus away from just scores. The current emphasis on grades puts a lot of pressure on students, often leading to stress and anxiety. If the school could promote learning for the sake of understanding and personal growth, I believe it could create a more relaxed and productive learning environment.
Sample 7
If you ask me, I’d say my school could work more on strengthening cybersecurity and anti-bullying education. With the advent of social media and online platforms, cyberbullying has become a real threat. Teaching students about the potential dangers, the importance of respectful communication, and how to stay safe online could be a significant step toward combating bullying. It’s all about fostering a respectful and inclusive digital space.
Sample 8
From my perspective, the school has done a commendable job in providing quality education. However, if I had to be overly critical, I’d love to see more emphasis on environmental consciousness, perhaps through the planting of more trees around the campus. But this is simply my personal wish, not a flaw per se.
Sample 9
Personally, I appreciate how my school manages to balance tradition with innovation. Our curriculum is rooted in time-tested educational principles, yet it’s flexible enough to incorporate the latest teaching methodologies. This balance is what makes our school unique, and, in my opinion, there’s nothing that needs to be adjusted or improved.
Sample 10
Honestly, I can’t think of any areas that require enhancement in my school. It’s not because it’s flawless, but rather that it’s meeting my educational requirements effectively. The school atmosphere is conducive to learning and the teaching methods are engaging. So, from my standpoint, there’s nothing in our school that calls for immediate improvement.
