This post contains ideas and band-9 sample answers (audio included) for the Cambridge IELTS 12 Academic Speaking Part 1 Question 1 Test 1 question:
“Is it important to you to eat healthy food? [Why/Why not?]”
Sample 1: Yes
Certainly, nutrition plays a pivotal role in my life. I’m a firm believer in the saying, ‘You are what you eat’. Consuming nutritious food can significantly enhance physical health, mental acuity, and overall well-being. I find that when I keep up with a balanced diet, my energy levels are higher and I’m able to perform better in my daily tasks.
Sample 2: Yes
Absolutely, as an avid gym-goer, consuming healthy meals is vital to me. Proper nutrition fuels my body, helps in muscle recovery, and keeps me in peak physical condition. It’s not just about looking good, but also about feeling good from the inside out.
Sample 3: Yes
Definitely, I can’t emphasize enough the importance of healthy eating in my life. A few years ago, I was frequently unwell and it was quite disconcerting. Upon advice from my doctor, I switched to a more nutrient-dense diet. The transformation was remarkable. I started to fall sick less often, had higher energy levels, and overall felt more robust. This personal experience made me realize that the food we eat can indeed be our medicine.
Sample 4: Yes
Yes, I find it vital to maintain a healthy diet, but my reasoning lies primarily in ethical and environmental concerns. I choose plant-based meals not only because they’re rich in nutrients but also because they’re kind to our fellow creatures and have a lesser environmental footprint. In essence, my diet allows me to improve my health while also promoting a more compassionate and sustainable world.
Sample 5: No
In all honesty, as a busy professional, I sometimes find it challenging to maintain a healthy diet. Fast food and ready meals are often more convenient given my hectic schedule. However, I understand the long-term impact on my health, so I try to incorporate more wholesome choices whenever possible.
Sample 6: No
In my opinion, eating should be more about enjoyment rather than strictly adhering to dietary guidelines. For me, food is an art, a sensorial experience that goes beyond nutritional content. I love to explore different cuisines and taste exotic dishes, so limiting myself to only health-conscious options would be a disservice to my culinary adventures.
Sample 7: No
Personally, I don’t wholly buy into the idea of “healthy” food. There’s a lot of misinformation out there about what’s healthy and what’s not. Plus, many so-called “healthy foods” can be laden with hidden sugars or unhealthy fats. I prefer to eat what I know and enjoy, rather than chase after the latest health trends.
Sample 8: No
To me, the importance of eating healthily is overshadowed by the stark reality of budgetary limitations. Nutritious food items, unfortunately, come with a hefty price, making it difficult for an average individual like me to afford them regularly. It’s not that I disregard the benefits, it’s simply a matter of financial feasibility.
Sample 9: Neutral
Interestingly, I’m someone who enjoys exploring diverse cuisines and trying exotic dishes. While I acknowledge the importance of a wholesome diet, I value the enjoyment and cultural experience of food equally. I endeavor to strike a balance, eating healthily most of the time but not depriving myself of gastronomic adventures.
Sample 10: Neutral
It really depends on the situation for me. I’m not rigid about my diet. If I’m in a rush and a fast food joint is the only option available, I wouldn’t hesitate to grab a quick bite. On the other hand, when I have the luxury of time and options, I’d prefer a meal that’s healthier and more balanced. Different circumstances call for different food choices.
