This post contains ideas and band-9 sample answers (audio included) for the Cambridge IELTS 12 Academic Speaking Part 1 Question 2 Test 2 question:
“How often do you sing now? [Why?]”
Sample 1: Regularly
I find myself vocalizing tunes quite frequently, almost every day in fact. The primary reason behind this is stress relief. In today’s fast-paced world, we all need an outlet to let go of our tensions, and singing provides me with that. It has a cathartic effect on me, which helps to rejuvenate my mind and spirit.
Sample 2: Regularly
I regularly partake in singing, as it is deeply entrenched in our societal interactions. In our culture, karaoke is often the centerpiece of social gatherings, be it with friends, family, or even colleagues. It’s less about the quality of the singing and more about the shared experience and camaraderie that the activity promotes.
Sample 3: Regularly
Singing is a regular part of my daily routine, particularly when I’m in the shower. It’s a safe space where I can express myself without any inhibitions. The echo in the bathroom makes even my simplest hums sound like a concert performance, which adds to the fun!
Sample 4: Moderately
I tend to belt out a song or two roughly every other day. This is primarily because singing is one of my hobbies, and I like to invest time in activities that bring me joy. Singing, for me, is a pleasant diversion from the monotony of everyday life.
Sample 5: Moderately
I sing occasionally, perhaps once or twice a week, but not without purpose. I feel that singing, especially songs with profound lyrics, allows me to express emotions that I might otherwise find difficult to articulate. It’s a means of catharsis for me, a way to understand and manage my feelings better.
Sample 6: Moderately
I typically sing when I’m at social gatherings with colleagues, which happens about twice a month or so. We often go for karaoke sessions after work. It’s an amusing and effective icebreaker that helps to foster camaraderie amongst us. Plus, it allows us to unwind and bond outside of the professional environment.
Sample 7: Rarely
Truth be told, I seldom find myself singing these days. The main reason is that I’ve always felt like I lack a natural aptitude for it. I can appreciate music greatly, but when it comes to producing melodious tunes myself, I feel like a fish out of water. It’s as if my vocal cords have a mind of their own and refuse to cooperate. So, I usually reserve my singing for when I’m alone, in the shower perhaps.
Sample 8: Rarely
To be candid, I hardly engage in singing now. I’ve developed a profound appreciation for silence and the peace it brings. In a world constantly filled with noise, silence has become a sanctuary for me. The tranquility it offers is far more harmonious to my ears than any melody I could produce.
Sample 9: Rarely
Singing has become an occasional activity for me now. My current inclination is toward podcasts and audiobooks. They offer a wealth of knowledge and perspectives that I find incredibly engaging. Singing is fun, but right now, I’m more drawn to the joy of learning through listening.
Sample 10: It Depends
Well, I’d say the frequency of my warbling is largely contingent on my mood. Some days, when I’m upbeat and cheerful, I find myself humming tunes almost incessantly. On the flip side, when I’m feeling a bit down or exhausted, silence is usually my preferred companion. So, it’s not a fixed routine but more of a mood-dependent activity.
