This post contains ideas and band-9 sample answers (audio included) for the Cambridge IELTS 13 Academic Speaking Part 1 Question 4 Test 4 question:
“Would you like to have a job working with animals? [Why/why not?]”
Sample 1: Yes
Absolutely, I would relish the opportunity to work in the vicinity of animals. My reason is deeply rooted in my passion for environmental stewardship and biodiversity. Having a job that allows me to engage directly with wildlife would provide me with the unique experience of contributing to the preservation and understanding of our planet’s diverse species. It’s not just about the intrinsic beauty of the animals, but also about appreciating their role in our global ecosystem.
Sample 2: Yes
Indeed, I would be more than happy to secure employment in an environment surrounded by animals. It’s well-documented that interacting with animals can have profound therapeutic effects, reducing stress and boosting mood. In this fast-paced, technology-driven society, a job with animals could provide a much-needed oasis of calm and balance, thereby promoting overall well-being.
Sample 3: Yes
Definitely, it would be an honour to have a career dealing with animals. Ever since I was a child, I’ve harbored an ambition to become a veterinarian. I am naturally empathetic and have a knack for understanding animals’ needs. Not only would such a job fulfill my lifelong dream, but it would also give me the chance to make a real difference by improving the health and lives of animals.
Sample 4: Yes
Indeed, I would absolutely adore a job that involves working with animals. I’ve always had a soft spot for pets, and the idea of owning a pet store has always appealed to me. It would be incredibly fulfilling to match families with their perfect pet companion, and to provide advice and products to help them care for their animals.
Sample 5: No
Sadly, I must admit that I wouldn’t consider having a job that includes dealing with animals. It’s not due to a lack of fondness, but rather a physiological condition. I am, unfortunately, allergic to a variety of animals, especially those with fur. Even brief exposure can lead to an array of unpleasant symptoms like sneezing, itching, and watery eyes. Therefore, as much as I might admire animals from a distance, working closely with them on a regular basis would not be a viable option for me.
Sample 6: No
As much as I respect the natural world and its diverse inhabitants, I must confess that I harbor a deep-seated fear of animals, which deters me from considering a profession involving them. Whether it’s a harmless rabbit or a domesticated dog, being in close proximity to animals triggers unease and anxiety within me. Such a phobia, albeit irrational, would undoubtedly impede my ability to perform effectively and comfortably in a role that required regular animal interaction. Therefore, as much as I might wish to overcome this fear, the prospect of working with animals isn’t a feasible one for me at present.
Sample 7: No
Frankly speaking, I’ve never contemplated working with animals because my passion lies in the realm of technology. I’ve always been intrigued by the latest advancements, the prospect of developing innovative solutions, and the thrill of exploring uncharted territories in the tech world. While I do appreciate the important role animals play in our world and respect those who dedicate their lives to ensuring their welfare, my career aspirations are firmly rooted in technology.
Sample 8: No
Animals, with their unpredictability and spontaneity, bring a certain joy and liveliness to life. However, as a person who thrives on routine and predictability, a career involving animals wouldn’t suit my personality. I appreciate the structure and certainty that desk jobs offer, which contrasts with the variability and dynamism inherent in animal-related work. Therefore, while I do enjoy animals in a personal setting, I wouldn’t prefer them in my professional life.
Sample 9: Not Sure
Well, I haven’t really had much exposure to animals outside of a domestic setting, so I’m a bit hesitant to categorically state whether I’d enjoy a vocation that involves working with them. I suppose it could be a fascinating journey, given the incredible range of species and their unique behaviors. Yet, I’m uncertain because it’s a field I’m not intimately familiar with.
Sample 10: Not Sure
The idea of working with animals sounds engaging and fulfilling on a personal level. Yet, my reservations stem from the financial aspect of such professions. From my understanding, roles in animal care or conservation often don’t offer substantial financial rewards. Given my financial responsibilities and aspirations, I’m unsure whether such a career would be an economically viable choice for me.
