This post contains ideas and band-9 sample answers (audio included) for the Cambridge IELTS 14 Academic Speaking Part 1 Question 3 Test 4 question:
“What new things would you like to have in your neighbourhood? [Why/why not?]”
Sample 1: New Things
In my opinion, having a well-equipped sports complex in my neighbourhood would be highly beneficial. This facility would cater to a diverse range of physical activities, from swimming and football to yoga and dance classes. By promoting a healthy and active lifestyle, the sports complex could help reduce stress levels and improve overall well-being among residents, ultimately fostering a more vibrant and dynamic community.
Sample 2: New Things
An appealing feature I’d like to see in my neighbourhood is the development of more green spaces and parks. By increasing the number of such spaces, we could offer our residents an opportunity to unwind, exercise, and enjoy the outdoors. Additionally, these green spaces could be designed with walking and cycling paths, playgrounds, and picnic areas, providing a variety of recreational options and contributing to the overall well-being of the community.
Sample 3: New Things
It’s a bit challenging for me to identify specific new features I’d like to see in my neighbourhood, but I am inclined to think that improved public transportation options could offer considerable benefits. One major advantage would be the reduction of traffic congestion, which would lead to decreased commuting times and less air pollution. Additionally, implementing a well-connected public transport system would encourage more people to opt for eco-friendly travel options, thereby contributing to a greener environment.
Sample 4: New Things
A mall featuring cinemas, cafes, and additional attractions in my neighbourhood would be instrumental in promoting a healthy work-life balance. By providing a nearby venue for relaxation and entertainment, residents would be encouraged to take breaks from their hectic schedules and indulge in some much-needed downtime, ultimately contributing to their overall well-being.
Sample 5: New Things
In my opinion, a valuable addition to my neighbourhood would be the integration of tree-lined streets and pedestrian pathways. Increasing the number of trees in our community would not only promote a healthier environment by absorbing harmful pollutants, but also assist in mitigating the effects of climate change. Trees have a natural cooling effect, which is particularly beneficial during the hot summer months. Furthermore, they help dampen noise levels, contributing to a more tranquil and enjoyable living space for all inhabitants.
Sample 6: Nothing
To be perfectly candid, I feel that my neighbourhood is already well-equipped with a diverse range of facilities that cater to our daily requirements. Introducing new elements to the area might lead to an increase in congestion and noise pollution, which could potentially detract from the peaceful ambience we currently enjoy. Thus, I am an advocate for preserving the area’s existing charm and characteristics.
Sample 7: Nothing
In truth, I am quite satisfied with the present state of my neighbourhood, as it offers a balance of essential services, green spaces, and recreational opportunities. I am of the belief that implementing new projects or developments might inadvertently alter the dynamics of the community, creating tensions or conflicts among residents. Therefore, I prefer to uphold the existing layout and configuration of the area.
Sample 8: Nothing
To be candid, I am quite enamored with the way my neighbourhood functions at present and don’t see a necessity for any new inclusions. The area already boasts a well-thought-out infrastructure, which caters to the needs of its inhabitants while preserving a serene atmosphere. I feel that adding new components might inadvertently disturb the delicate balance we’ve achieved and therefore prefer to maintain the status quo.
Sample 9: Nothing
Well, after giving it some thought, I must admit that I’m quite satisfied with my neighbourhood as it is. The area possesses a certain charm and tranquility, which I believe has been achieved thanks to the careful balance of amenities and open spaces. Introducing new elements might inadvertently alter the ambiance, and I’m not entirely certain that would be beneficial to the community.
Sample 10: Nothing
Honestly, I find it difficult to pinpoint any specific new things that I would like to have in my neighbourhood. The area is well-appointed, and it meets the needs of the residents effectively. I think that preserving the existing character and the sense of familiarity that we all enjoy is more important than constantly seeking novelty. Sometimes, keeping things as they are can be the best approach.
