Speaker 1 (1)
Section two.

Speaker 1 (2)
You'll hear a talk given to new students about a university advisory service.

Speaker 1 (3)
First, you have some time to look at questions 11 to 15.

Speaker 1 (4)
Now listen carefully to the first part of the talk and answer questions 11 to 15.

Speaker 2 (5)
Hello, everybody, and welcome to this informal meeting about the university helpline.

Speaker 2 (6)
The helpline was set up ten years ago by the Students' Union, and it aims to provide new students to the university with a service that they can use if they need information about practical areas of student life that they're unfamiliar with.

Speaker 2 (7)
Let me give you some examples of the type of help we can offer.

Speaker 2 (8)
We can provide information on financial matters.

Speaker 2 (9)
For example, you may feel that your grant is insufficient to see you through college life, or you may have some some queries regarding the fees you're paying if you're an overseas student.

Speaker 2 (10)
In both cases, the helpline would be able to go through things with you and see what the outcome might be.

Speaker 2 (11)
Another area we can help with is what we generally term the domestic area.

Speaker 2 (12)
Things such as child care and the availability of nursery provision, for example, come under this.

Speaker 2 (13)
Then there's academic issues that may arise while you're in the early stages of your course that you may not know what to do about.

Speaker 2 (14)
Uh, you may wish to know more about essay deadlines, for example, or how to use the library.

Speaker 2 (15)
There are all kinds of questions you will find yourself asking and not knowing where to get quick answers from.

Speaker 2 (16)
The helpline would be able to provide these.

Speaker 2 (17)
The last example I've given here is simply termed social.

Speaker 2 (18)
And, yes, there is a lot of social life here, but you may have a particular interest you wish to pursue, or you may wish to participate in outings or trips if you don't know many people at the moment.

Speaker 1 (19)
Before you hear the rest of the talk, you have some time to look at questions 16 to 20.

Speaker 1 (20)
Now listen and answer questions 16 to 20.

Speaker 2 (21)
Let me give you some details so that you know where to go and who to see if you want to pay us a visit.

Speaker 2 (22)
Generally, you'll see our helpline officer, Jackie Kuachi.

Speaker 2 (23)
That's k o u a c h I.

Speaker 2 (24)
Jackie is a full time employee of student union, and she works in the student welfare office.

Speaker 2 (25)
That's the office that deals with all matters related to student welfare, and it's located at 13 Marshall Road.

Speaker 2 (26)
I have some maps here for those of you who haven't been there yet.

Speaker 2 (27)
If you wish to ring the office, the number is 326-9940.

Speaker 2 (28)
That's 326-9940.

Speaker 2 (29)
The office is open between 09:30 and 06:00 on weekdays and from ten to four on Saturdays.

Speaker 2 (30)
And there'll be somebody there, usually Jackie or myself, between those times.

Speaker 2 (31)
If you want to make an appointment, you can phone or call at the office in person.

Speaker 2 (32)
Please note that it may not be possible for anyone to see you straight away, particularly if it's a busy time, lunchtime, for example, and you may have to go on the waiting list and then come back later.

Speaker 2 (33)
Well, enough from me.

Speaker 2 (34)
Any questions?

Speaker 1 (35)
That is the end of section two.

Speaker 1 (36)
You will now have half a minute to check your answers.

Speaker 1 (37)
Now turn to section three.
