Speaker 2 (1)
Hello, Wayside Camera Club, Breda speaking.
Speaker 1 (2)
Oh, hello, my name's Dan and I'd like to join your club.
Speaker 2 (3)
That's great, Dan. We have an application form.
Speaker 2 (4)
Would you like to complete it over the phone?
Speaker 2 (5)
Then you can ask any questions you might have.
Speaker 1 (6)
Oh, yes. Thanks.
Speaker 2 (7)
OK. So what's your family name?
Speaker 1 (8)
It's Green - Dan Green.
Speaker 2 (9)
So, can I take your e-mail address?
Speaker 1 (10)
Yes, it's dan1068@market.com.
Speaker 2 (11)
Thanks. And what about your home address?
Speaker 1 (12)
Well, I'm about 10 miles away from your club in Peacetown. I live in a house there.
Speaker 2 (13)
OK, so what's the house number and street?
Speaker 1 (14)
It's 52 Marrow Field Street.
Speaker 2 (15)
Is that M-A double R-O-W-F-l-E-L-D?
Speaker 1 (16)
That's right.
Speaker 2 (17)
And, that's Peacetown, you said?
Speaker 2 (18)
So how did you hear about our club? Did you look on the Internet?
Speaker 1 (19)
I usually do that, but this time, well, I was talking to a relative the other day and he suggested it.
Speaker 2 (20)
Oh, is he a member too?
Speaker 1 (21)
He belongs to another club, but he'd heard good things about yours.
Speaker 2 (22)
OK, So what do you hope to get from joining?
Speaker 1 (23)
Well, one thing that really interests me is the competitions that you have. I enjoy entering those.
Speaker 2 (24)
Right. Anything else?
Speaker 1 (25)
Well, I also like to socialize with other photographers.
Speaker 2 (26)
That's great. So what type of membership would you like?
Speaker 1 (27)
What are the options?
Speaker 2 (28)
It’s £30 a year for full membership or £20 a year if you’re an associate.
Speaker 1 (29)
I think I'll go for the full membership then.
Speaker 2 (30)
That's a good idea, because you can't vote in meetings with an associate membership.
Speaker 2 (31)
If I could just find out a bit more about you.
Speaker 2 (33)
So you said you wanted to compete - have you ever won any photography competitions?
Speaker 1 (34)
Not yet, but I have entered three in the past.
Speaker 2 (35)
Oh, that's interesting. So why don't you tell me something about those? Let's start with the first one.
Speaker 1 (36)
Well, the theme was entitled Domestic Life.
Speaker 2 (37)
I see. So it had to be something related to the home.
Speaker 1 (38)
Yeah. I chose to take a photo of a family sitting round the dinner table having a meal, and, um.., I didn’t win, but I did get some feedback.
Speaker 2 (39)
Oh, what did the judges say?
Speaker 1 (40)
That it was too busy as a picture.
Speaker 2 (41)
Aha. So it was the composition of the picture that they criticized?
Speaker 1 (42)
That's right. And once they told me that I could see my mistake.
Speaker 2 (43)
So what was the theme of the second competition?
Speaker 1 (44)
Well, my university was on the coast and that area gets a lot of beautiful sunsets, so that's was the theme.
Speaker 2 (45)
Oh, sunsets. That's a great theme.
Speaker 1 (46)
Yes, the instructions were to capture the clouds as well.
Speaker 1 (47)
It couldn't just be blue sky and a setting sun.
Speaker 2 (48)
Sure, because they give you all those amazing pinks and purples.
Speaker 1 (49)
Yeah, and I thought I'd done that well, but the feedback was that I should have waited a bit longer to get the shot.
Speaker 2 (50)
I see. So the timing wasn't right.
Speaker 1 (51)
Yes, I took it too soon basically.
Speaker 1 (52)
And then the third competition I entered was called Animal Magic.
Speaker 2 (53)
Well, that's a difficult subject.
Speaker 1 (54)
I know. I had to take hundreds of shots.
Speaker 2 (55)
I'm sure, because animals move all the time.
Speaker 1 (56)
That's what we had to show.
Speaker 1 (57)
There had to be some movements in the scene.
Speaker 1 (58)
I got a great shot of a fox in the end, but I took it at night and, well, I suspected that it was a bit dark, which is what I was told.
Speaker 2 (59)
Well Dan, you seem to be really keen and we'd be delighted to have you in our club.
Speaker 2 (60)
I'm sure we can help with all those areas that you've outlined.
Speaker 1 (61)
Thanks. That's great.
