Answers & Explanations Summary
| # | Answer | Evidence | Explanation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Q11 | C | Our consultations can number anything up to 11,000 patients a year, however we aim to treat around 5,000 patients a year so as to maintain and ensure the quality of our services | Excerpt/Transcript Explanation: The transcript explains that the hospital can have as many as 11,000 patient meetings (consultations) a year, even though they only provide full treatment to about 5,000 of them. Answer Explanation: The answer is 11,000, which is the maximum number of people the hospital has health meetings with each year. Reason For Correctness: The correct answer is 11,000 because the speaker specifically uses the word 'consultations' when mentioning this number. In English, a consultation is a meeting with a doctor to get advice. While the hospital aims to 'treat' (give medical care to) 5,000 people, the question asks how many they 'consult' (talk to for advice), which can be as many as 11,000. |
| Q12 | A | Appointments with our healthcare professionals can be made at any time during the week, with female doctors available between 8 am and 11 am | Excerpt/Transcript Explanation: The transcript states that patients can book a time with the medical staff any day from Monday to Friday, but female doctors are specifically available from 8:00 to 11:00 in the morning. Answer Explanation: The answer means that patients who want to see a woman doctor should come to the hospital in the morning on a workday (Monday through Friday). Reason For Correctness: The correct answer is A because the text explains that appointments can be made 'during the week.' It then says that female doctors are available from '8 am and 11 am.' In English, 'during the week' refers to weekdays, and the hours between 8 am and 11 am are in the morning. This makes 'weekday mornings' the correct choice. |
| Q13 | B | Mr. Green specialises in reversing hearing loss | Excerpt/Transcript Explanation: The transcript states that Mr. Green's special job is to fix the problem of losing one's hearing. Answer Explanation: The answer means that Mr. Green is the doctor who treats problems with hearing loss. Reason For Correctness: The correct answer is B because the text lists Mr. Green as the doctor who 'specialises' in 'reversing hearing loss.' In this context, 'reversing' means to fix the loss and bring back the ability to hear. While Mr. Robert is an ear and throat doctor and Mr. Edwards is a children's hearing doctor, only Mr. Green is specifically mentioned as the expert for fixing or treating hearing loss itself. |
| Q14 | C | There are several pharmacies within the city; however we recommend that patients use the pharmacy housed within our health care facility | Excerpt/Transcript Explanation: The transcript says there are many shops to buy medicine in the city, but the clinic suggests that patients use the shop that is inside their own building. Answer Explanation: The answer is that patients should buy their medicine at the pharmacy located inside the clinic. Reason For Correctness: The correct answer is C because the speaker says that while there are many medicine shops in the city, the clinic 'recommends' (suggests) that patients use the one inside their own building. The phrase 'housed within our health care facility' means the shop is located inside the clinic. |
| Q15 | A | Therefore we would like to encourage our patients to give their consent for a medical student to attend their consultations | Excerpt/Transcript Explanation: The transcript says the hospital wants patients to agree to let one student come into the room during their appointment to learn. Answer Explanation: The answer means patients will be asked if they are okay with having one student join their doctor's appointment. Reason For Correctness: The correct answer is A because the transcript explains that the clinic is a teaching hospital and aims to give students experience. Because of this, the hospital asks patients to give their 'consent' (which means to say 'yes' or give permission) for 'a medical student' (one student) to be present during their meeting or 'consultation'. |
| Q16 | F | reception can be found through the main door at the end of the corridor | Excerpt/Transcript Explanation: The transcript explains that to find the reception, you go inside through the main entrance and walk to the very end of the long hallway (corridor). Answer Explanation: The answer is F, which is the location on the map labeled as the Reception desk. Reason For Correctness: The correct answer is F because the speaker gives clear directions on how to find it. They mention starting at the main door and walking all the way down the hallway. The place at the very end of that long walkway is where the reception area is located. In English, 'at the end of' means you follow a path as far as it goes. |
| Q17 | H | If your consultation is booked with Mr. Green, you need to go through the main door and turn right by the nurses' desk, and his office is at the end of the corridor on your left-hand side | Excerpt/Transcript Explanation: The transcript tells us the exact path to find Mr. Green. You must enter the main door, turn right, and go to the very end of the hall to the room on the left. Answer Explanation: The answer is H, which shows the place for Mr. Green's room. Reason For Correctness: The correct answer is found by following the directions given in the text. To find Mr. Green's room, you must go through the main door and turn right near the nurses' desk. Then, you look for the room at the end of the long hallway (corridor) on the left side. These instructions lead to the spot marked H on the map. |
| Q18 | A | If you need to alter any of your personal details, please visit our secretary at the Office for Medical Records, which you will find next to the therapy room | Excerpt/Transcript Explanation: The transcript explains that the Medical Records Office is the place where a secretary helps with personal details. It tells the listener that this office is situated right beside the room used for therapy. Answer Explanation: The answer is A, which is the label for the Medical Records Office on the map. Reason For Correctness: The correct answer is A because the speaker clearly describes the location of the Office for Medical Records. They mention that if a patient needs to change their personal information, they should go to this office. The key detail given is its position: it is located right 'next to the therapy room.' |
| Q19 | D | If you're awaiting surgery, please first check in with reception, before taking the first door on the right after you enter the clinic | Excerpt/Transcript Explanation: The transcript explains that if you are there for surgery, you should go inside the clinic and then go through the very first door on your right side. Answer Explanation: The answer is D. Reason For Correctness: The correct answer is D because the speaker describes where to go if a patient is waiting for surgery. After entering the building, the surgery area is located at the very first door on the right side. In these types of map tasks, the first opening or door you encounter after coming through the entrance is often labeled with a letter, and here that position matches D. |
| Q20 | C | Finally, in the event that you feel disappointed with any of the services we have provided, or have any further questions, please locate our Manager's Office, which can be found near the Office for Medical Records and between two closets | Excerpt/Transcript Explanation: The transcript explains that if you want to find the Manager's Office, you should look for the Office for Medical Records. The Manager's Office is right there, positioned between two small rooms called closets. Answer Explanation: The answer C means point C on the map is the location of the Manager's Office. Reason For Correctness: The correct answer is C because the text gives specific clues about where the Manager's Office is located. It says the office is close to the 'Office for Medical Records'. Most importantly, it describes the office as being 'between two closets'. This means the office sits in the middle of two small storage rooms. |

There are several pharmacies within the city; however we recommend that patients use the pharmacy housed within our health care facility. Our in-house pharmacy is well-stocked at all times, our products are competitively priced, and our pharmacists are on hand to help and advise from 8 am until 10 pm from Monday to Saturday, and from 9 am until 12 pm on Sundays. If you require any help outside of these hours, please see our 'Out of Hours' page on the website.
Since the Healthy Hearing Medical Clinic and Surgery also functions as a teaching hospital, we aim to provide our students with every opportunity to expose themselves to medicine in practice. Therefore we would like to encourage our patients to give their consent for a medical student to attend their consultations. If our patients are not comfortable with this, there will be a form at reception where patients will be able to opt out.
