The pictures illustrate the layout of the Southwest airport now, as well as the plan for its reconstruction.
Overall, the redevelopment of the airport will significantly expand gate capacity and add more commercial and transport facilities throughout the airport.
At present, Southwest airport has only eight gates which are located within walking distance. Meanwhile, the departure area consists only of a check-in area and a cafe, and there is space for a passenger security check and a passport control. In addition, the arrivals zone is completely empty at the moment.
In the future, the general gate area is expected to be expanded, causing ten more gates to be constructed. This expansion requires the construction of a sky train to provide easier access to the gates. Furthermore, some rearrangements will be made in the departures area, and a bag drop will be built. Free space between the gates and security check area will be filled with several shops. Moreover, the arrivals zone will provide a car hire service, an ATM, and a cafe.
The map compares the current layout of Southwest Airport with that of next year following the implementation of redevelopment plan. Overall, the site will evolve substantially from a simple layout into a more advanced and multifunctional area with the introduction of new gates, shops and a sky train.
The redevelopment plan primarily consists of the expansion of gates, introduction of several new facilities, in particular a sky train and a car hire service. To begin with, currently there are eight gates, which will be expanded dramatically, reaching 18 next year. In the northern section, walkways will be replaced by sky trains as a part of redevelopment plan. In contrast, security passport control and passport control customs area will remain unchanged in the same location. In the north-western area, new shops will be placed next year.
Turning to south-eastern area, an ATM, a cafe and car hire facilities will be installed, and the area will be expanded slightly towards the south. In the opposite corner, the existing cafe and check-in will be relocated to the eastern corner and southern site, respectively. The latter’s previous location will now be serving as bag drop. In addition, the number of departures and arrivals will be doubled, in both the south-eastern and south-western parts of the airport.
The plans illustrate the current layout of Southwest Airport and how it will appear after redevelopment next year.
Overall, the airport will experience significant expansion. The number of gates will increase, and several new facilities such as shops, a sky train, an ATM, and car hire services will be added, making the airport more modern and convenient for passengers.
At present, the airport has a simple structure with eight gates, which are connected by a walkway. The terminal building is divided into two main sections. On the left side, there is a security check and passport control area leading to departures, along with a café. On the right side, passport control and customs are located for arriving passengers. There are no additional passenger services apart from check-in and a café.
After redevelopment, the airport will be considerably larger. The number of gates will double from 8 to 16, arranged in a Y-shaped layout. A sky train will be constructed to connect the terminal with the gate areas. In addition, shops will be built near the security area. New facilities such as a bag drop, ATM, and car hire service will also be introduced, particularly in the arrivals section. Overall, these changes will improve passenger movement and services at the airport.

The plans below illustrate the redevelopment plans for an airport site for the upcoming year.
Overall, it is clear that the airport will undergo numerous changes, starting with the refurbishment of the boarding gates, which will sharply increase, going from the 8 existing ones to a total of 18. These will be connected by a sky train that will enable faster arrival and will also ensure a better experience for disabled people. The departure and arrival doors will also be doubled; this will avoid queues, especially during the holidays, when the airport gets really crowded.
In addition, the airport terminal will also add some services, such as an ATM, a car rental, and a bag drop zone, which will be really useful for foreigners who need to change money or rent a car for their stay. The given diagram demonstrates the area of an airport now and how it will look after the renovation.
Primarily, it is significant to note that currently there are only two entries to the airport: one for departures and the other for arrivals. These will be converted to four entries. The Departure area now has only check-in and a cafe, but it is observed that the check-in area that is present on the left side will be replaced by a Bag drop and will be reconstructed on the right side. The cafe that is present on the right side will be rebuilt in the west-south corner of the area.
Additionally, in the arrivals area there is nothing present, but in the future, another cafeteria will be constructed, and an ATM machine will be placed on the left side of it. The car hire area will be on the southeast side of the arrivals site.
