The maps show how the Central Library has changed over the past 20 years.

Overall, the library has been modernised with new facilities. Many areas have been replaced.

Twenty years ago, the library mainly focused on books. On the left side, there were adult fiction books and a reading room with newspapers and magazines. In the top left corner, there were CDs, videos and computer games. On the right side, there were adult non-fiction books and children’s books. The entrance was in a centre, with tables and chairs in the middle of the library. There were also an enquiry desk near the centre.

Today, the library has developed. The top left area is now used for children’s fiction books and storytelling events, with sofas. The botoom left area has been converter into computer room. In the centre, tables and chairs have been removed.

On the right side, several new facilities have been introduced. A lecture room has replaced the children’s books section, and there are now self-service machines and an infrormation desk. In addition, a cafe has been built in the botom of the right corner.

The layouts below illustrate the change in the floor plan of a public central library from 20 years ago to now.

Overall, the most striking change is the significant modernization and technological additions to the space.

To begin with, tables and chairs were removed from the entrance hall. The enquiry desk has been removed, and a cafe was built in its former place. Moreover, the information desk, adult fiction books, and self-service machines were placed where adult non-fiction books once were.

Furthermore, reference books are now placed across the hall from the information desk. The storage for CDs, videos, and computer games was demolished to build a bigger room in its place, and children’s books were moved to the newly built large room with sofas, which organizes story telling events as well. Thus, the lecture room was developed in the former children’s books’ room. On the other hand, the reading room (newspapers and magazines) was repurposed as a computer room.

The diagram illustrates the floor plan of a public library 20 years ago and how it looks now.

Twenty years ago, the public library was pretty simple, but today, the central library looks very sophisticated with modern equipment and amenities.

The corner which was allocated for CDs, videos, and computer games has been converted into a corner for children’s fiction books and storytelling events. Along with that, two sofas have been installed in the corner. The block designed for adult fiction books has been transformed into the space for all reference books. The reading room has been transformed into a computer room. The children’s books corner has been transformed into a lecture room. The block allocated for adult non-fiction books has been transformed into the space for adult fiction books. Along with that, an information desk and self-service machines have been added in the same block. The enquiry desk has been turned into a cafe. Tables and chairs installed in the middle of the library have been removed, whereas the position of the entrance remains the same.

The diagram shows that the public library, which was underdeveloped twenty years ago, has been modernized to meet the growing demands for sophisticated facilities.

The comparison between the current map of a public library and its previous floor plan from 20 years ago is shown in the pictures.

Overall, the most significant changes over the years are in the placement of furniture, the technologies that were applied recently in the newest floor plan, and the shape of the room at the right corner. The number of rooms and the entrance point between years remained unchanged. However, the use of each room compared between both differs. Furthermore, the computer games room is still available in the present but at a different placement, and so is the children’s books room.

The central library map from 20 years ago shows the conventional type of facilities such as a ticketing desk, which has been transformed into a cafe today. Nowadays, those ticketing systems have developed into self-service machines. In addition, the cleared area at the center of the library seems a big visual difference compared with the map from 20 years ago, which was decorated by tables and chairs. Moreover, there is a storytelling events place in today’s floor plan, completed by sofas around it.
