A piece of technology that I find quite difficult and complicated to use is 3D modeling software. Especially computer-aided design programs like SOLIDWORKS, it is a highly advanced computer application that engineers use to build digital 3D models and blueprints of physical machinery parts before they are actually manufactured. I used this software about two years ago during my technical studies when we had to complete a practical assignment for the manufacturing design module. Up until that point, I was mostly used to basic computer applications and standards of its software. So, opening this program for the first time, I felt like I was looking at a spaceship or a control panel. What makes it incredibly difficult is the steep learning curve and sheer complexity of the user interface, which has hundreds of tiny buttons, hidden menus, and strict contrasting colors. If you make a tiny error in your digital geometric sketch, even by just a single millimeter, or if you apply a feature in the wrong sequence, the entire 3D model fails and crashes. Tracking down where you made that mistake in the design requires an immense amount of patience and technical knowledge. Whenever I use this technology, I usually feel quite stressed at the beginning because I am always worried about making a mistake that might ruin my efforts. However, when I finally manage to solve the problem and complete complex designs successfully, that frustration turns into a great sense of relief and accomplishment.
