This is a really interesting question because I think this is a rule that is commonly applied in schools around Indonesia, especially public schools, where we are required to wear black socks, black shoes, and it is preferable to have short hair. If you have long hair, some teachers would conduct a spontaneous run around and just cut anyone's hair at that time, which is quite impolite, to be fair. It is somehow forcing uniformity, which I don't really like because, especially as a social political student, I see uniformity as propaganda. I believe it is too forced because why would you want everyone to be the same when everyone can have different perspectives and different ways of showcasing themselves? It doesn't determine whether they will be successful, whether they are smart, morally right, or obedient students. Anyone can be anything, and if they have long hair, that's fine, especially boys. It is very much criticized in my school, and it doesn't make sense. I also see that as a part of militarization; it is a very intrusive form of militarization right now, and I don't think it is necessary. The reason students still follow this rule is that, unfortunately, it is still highly enforced in schools because it is deemed as a form of discipline. You can be seen as morally right because of that, which is very sad. I don't think it is right to do, and I don't support it in any way because I don't believe in judging a book by its cover and just cutting anyone's hair without consent. Of course, it's overstepping boundaries.
