A skill I learned from a non-human source is learning how to take care of a living thing. See, when I was eight years old, I got a plant, a strawberry plant, because I convinced my parents to get me the plant thinking that I would be responsible to take care of it. I loved the earlier of getting fresh strawberries straight out of my garden, and I thought, how hard can it be to take care of a plant? You know, we learned in biology, plants can make their own food, all they need is sunlight, water, and the occasional fertilizer. So I thought, well, that can’t be much of a problem. And despite my parents’ warnings, I decided to go ahead anyway. I learned the hard way that it is not that easy to take care of a plant. For example, there were a few days when I was too lazy to get out of bed actually water my plant or I thought well it looks like it’s gonna rain soon so I don’t have to go and watch it myself the sky will do it for me which is obviously a ridiculous way to be thinking if you’re really going to try to nurture a plant and I also remember getting extremely annoyed when after a week the plant wasn’t growing any strawberries yet and it was definitely an an interesting experience because I never really had a chance to take up another living thing and especially a plant and I didn’t expect things to go sideways so quickly as the plant died maybe one month after I got it without producing a single strawberry. I’d say that this experience influenced my life by showing me that good things take time for one. You can’t expect fresh and sweet strawberries to grow in the matter of a week. And also the fact that in order to actually take care of something, you have to put in effort. Things aren’t going to come to you handed on the silver platter and you have to actually go out and work for it.
