Recently I was out doing my grocery shopping and I noticed and I encountered a situation that really highlighted the importance of community support. I noticed an elderly woman who I’ll refer to as an auntie. She was struggling to communicate with the seller. It became apparent that the language barrier was causing her significant distress due to her limited proficiency in English. I recognized her struggle. I stabbed in and offered my assistance. To my surprise, I found out that she was also Cambodian, which allowed me to communicate with her in other native language, which is Khmer. I acted as the interpreter between her and the seller, helping to translate their communication, or their conversation, and ensure that the auntie could ask questions and understand the product she wanted to buy. This not only made her shopping process much smoother but also made her film more at ease in an unfamiliar environment or setting. And thanks to our collaboration, Auntie was able to communicate to complete her shopping without any further complications. By the end of our interaction, she was visibly relieved and delighted with her purchase. Her small up-down living, the store was a testament to a positive impact we had achieved together. It was fulfilling to see how my help made a tangible difference in her day. Having heard that they filled me with immense satisfaction, I felt a profound sense of happiness not just being able to assist someone that is having a struggle or in need.
