One time I helped someone in a way that surprised me was a few months ago when I saw a middle-aged woman who happened to be carrying a bunch of groceries in her hands. It seemed like quite a heavy load, so she initially approached me, which shocked me because I thought she would be mean. What happened was that she was asking for directions to the train station. It was surprising to me because I did not know what to expect. I had no idea that she was simply asking for directions. I was relieved when it turned out that she wasn't a thief, so I decided to show her the way, of course, with the help of my male friends. Without them, this middle-aged woman and I might not have become good acquaintances, and my feeling could have been right or wrong that she was a mean person. Luckily, she was sincerely asking for help at that time, which was one of the things that was out of my mind. Things like that happen once in a blue moon, at least in my current city, and without my skepticism, I guess I don't know.
