As I know, the most popular kinds of shows and plays at the theaters in Russia are dramas and comedies. I think you can see some classical adaptations, such as the Crimean War and The Beast by Lev Tolstoy, and Eugene Onegin, which is the most popular literature for adaptation. Also, I think nowadays there are a lot of modern writers of classical scenarios, and people prefer to visit these types of places, especially young people. In Russia, both types of plays, classical and modern, are rather popular.
