Grandparents are undeniably the bedrock of strength in families in my country. Being the elder generation, they act as the glue that binds different family members together. They preserve old connections, fostering relationships between younger and older siblings. As families grow and marry, they often separate, but grandparents actively maintain contact, ensuring the family remains united and socially connected. They also serve as the ultimate decision-makers. When a sibling or even the parents face significant choices, such as relocating to another country or arranging their daughter's marriage, they typically seek guidance from their grandparents. In essence, grandparents are the respected figures of the household, holding the key to important decisions within the family.
Actual audio transcript (What native speakers are likely to hear):

I would definitely say that they are the pillar of strength in a family. In my country, as they are older ones, they play the role of, uh, joining different, uh, connections within the family. They keep the old connections intact, such as, uh, creating the connection between younger siblings and elder siblings. As they, as the families got married, uh, they like to separate, but grandparents do like to make a contact with them, and they keep the whole family intact, and the social connection stays, uh, within the family. They also act as the ultimate decision makers. If an elder sibling, or even the parents have to make a big decision, such as shifting to another country or marrying their daughter to someone, they usually do consult grandparents. So I think grandparents are the figureheads of the house, and they are the key decision makers, uh, in the house.
