In many families in my country, grandparents have significant roles because all their children turn to them when they have any problems and ask for their opinion in major life events. Some families or some kids even don't do anything without getting approval from their parents, even if they have children. I think that they get involved a lot in the lives of their grandchildren from the moment they are born until they grow up.
