Well, I think people become less confident mainly because of social norms. It requires people to be perfect in all ways. For example, students are forced to study 10 hours a day to be competitive enough to get accepted by universities. Or women are expected to be good at both doing housework and earning money. So when people feel like they cannot meet those standards, they feel unconfident.
