The chart illustrates the proportion of people living in downtown areas in the world and in the other six different groups regions in Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, North America and Ocenia, in 1975, 2020 and 2050.
Overall, 2050 is the year with most citizen in urban areas, and for the most populated region in urban areas is North America for the same three years, meanwhile for a region with least population in urban areas is Africa.
In the Europe, Latin America and North America the population in the urban areas is highly increasing gradually from 60% to slightly over 70% until it reach around between 80% to 90% in 2050. Whereas, the Oceania has a unsteady increase but still remain a stable percentage of population, approximately 70%.
The remaining groups like the world, Africa and Asia each has a stable increase over the same three years, starting in more or less 20% to well under 40% and ends up in nearly 60% to below 70%.
