Overall, expenditure of China declined steadily throughout the period but fluctuated in India. Despite this, the total amount of money that flowed in China was higher than in India.
The Chines received just under $80 billion in 2014, which fell to around $60 billion in 2015 to 2016. After a slight decrease in 2017, there was a massive resurgence to a high point of more than $100 billion before receding to around $60 billion in 2019.
In 2014, foreign outlays into India’s economy reached more than $20 billion, then rose significantly to around $60 billion in 2015 and 2016 before falling back to 2014 levels in 2017. In 2018, there was a dramatic increase to below $60 billion before returning to just around $20 billion in 2019. 2015 was the only year Indian’s foreign investment exceeded China’s with values of slightly over $60 billion and slightly below $60 billion, respectively.
