Overall, it is clearly evident that marriage rate was always over that of divorces with a considerable margin during the period given, slowly declining, while divorce numbers remained same at the end. Meanwhile, married group of adults accounted a high of the chart in both 1970 and 2000.
Categorically speaking, marriages started a period at a peak of 2.5 million, which was far above divorces at 1 million. In following years, marriage numbers remained flat until 1980, before a period of decrease to 2 million; however, divorce figures slowly declined, standing for 2 million in 2000.
Looking into marital status of adults in America, married portion of them accounted for a high of 70% in 1970, which saw a drop of just 10% in 2000, followed by never married people at around 20%. The number of divorced individuals climbed from a bottom of chart to just below 10%, whilst that of those widowed ranked between 0-10%.
