The pie charts give information about water consumption and overall income from six product categories – vegetables, cereals, dairy, fruits, rice, and livestock – in Australia in 2004.
Overall, more water was used for vegetables and fruits. Similarly, Australia generated most of its income from fruits and vegetables, while rice used the least water and generated the least income.
Vegetables made up the largest proportion of water usage at 46%. Fruits were the second largest consumer, at nearly half the figure for vegetables, with 28%, followed by cereals at 12%. Meanwhile, rice and livestock used only 3% each.
Turning to income, fruits were the most profitable product, contributing 42% of total agricultural revenue, despite consuming less water than vegetables. Vegetables, although requiring almost half of the total water, produced a smaller share of income at 33%. Meanwhile, cereals and dairy products generated 13% and 8% of revenue respectively. By contrast, rice and livestock generated the lowest income, at 3% and 1%
