The graph shows the trends of various types of crimes during 2003 to 2012 in the Newport city centre.
Overall, burglaries and car thefts were committed in higher proportions than robberies during the interval of the graph. At first, burglary was observed the most, but it decreased the most and its numbers fell below than that of car theft’s. Car theft and robbery reports did not change much, but the former fluctuated to a higher degree.
To commence with, burglary peaked at about 3750 incidents in 2004, which was the highes t number of crimes committed in the graph. However, it decreased steadily for the next four years, reaching 1250 reports. Furthermore, burglary remained relatively constant for the rest of the duration, remaining between 1000 and 1500 reports per year. Additionally, it decreased below car theft right after the year 2006, with car theft being seen 2250 times and burglary being seen about 1500 times in 2007.
To add further detail, car theft was at a high plateau for the first three years at 2750 offences. However, it decreased to about 2000 in next year and fluctuated within the range of 2000 to 2500. The exception was the year 2010 where, the violations crossed the 2500 mark. On the other hand, robbery was fairly and constant within the whole stretch, varying between the span of only 500 to 1000 illegalities.
