The given graph illustrates the proportion of Australian’s exports to four distinct countries from 1990 to 2012.
Overall, there were considerable fluctuations of exports percentage among mentioned countries through the period shown. It is apparent that the China’s exports followed by an uptick trend according to the data represented throughout the period.
Starting with Japan, constituting the highest among four countries at the start of the period, around 25%, this country witnessed a gradual decrease in the subsequent years. In around mid 2007, a minimal increase around 3% could be observed in this year prior to continually decreasing in the remaining years with the figure for 2012 was approximately 18%. Likewise, a similar downtrend was observed in US, starting at just over 10% before falling steadily to the end of the period about 7%, despite an increase to around 13% in 2000.
In contrast, exports to China witnessed a substantial rise from 3% initially to nearly 30% in 2012, overtaking Japan to become Australia’s largest goods export market. Likewise, albeit at a lowest rate, a constant increase to nearly 10% in 2010 could be observed in India before dropping to about 5% at the end of the period.
