The given line graph compares four different nations in terms of their Australian import proportions over a span of 22 years, starting from 1990.
Overall, while the export values to Japan and the US from Australia witnessed a downward trend during the given period, the opposite was seen in the remaining countries. In addition, Japan was the leading importer of Australian goods for the majority of the time frame.
In 1990, around a quarter of Australian exports went to Japan while that to the US was considerably lower, at roughly 12%. In the following 22 years, the figure for the former sharply declined to under 17% in 2002 before fluctuating throughout the next 7 years and then ending at this level in 2012. Sharing a similar trend, exports to America had seen a steady drop of 7% by the final year despite a slight increase of almost 4% from 1995 to 2000.
Contrastingly, although the exports to China and India initially accounted for small fractions, at approximately 3% and 2% respectively, both these two figures gradually underwent ascents over the next 20 years. However, from 2007 onwards, whereas the proportion of Australian exports to China soared to surpass that to Japan and peaked at over 27% by the end of the period, the figure for India hit a high of 8% in 2009 but then decreased slightly by 3% eventually.
