The given line chart delineates the proportions of Australian products imported by four countries, conprising Japan, the US, China and India between 1990 and 2012. Generally, it is immediately apparent that the percentages of exports to China and India rose, whereas those to Japan as well as the US dropped over the period.
Initially, both China and India imported least Australian mechandise in relation to the other countries. However, after about 17 years, China’s figure increased by approximately 10% before this country witnessed a precipitous profileration of almost 15% in only 4 years, ending up the greatest importing nation. Following the same pattern, the proportion of exports to India negligibly increased from around 2% to roughly 5% at the end of the time frame.
In stark contrast to the two aforementioned countries, the amount of mechandise exported to Japan, which was originally much larger than the other’s, experienced a constant fall from roughly 25% to about 18%. Simultaneously, the percentage of Australian products imported by the US fluctuated around 8% and 11% till around 2003, at which point the figure started to decreased to roughly 5%.
