Overall, while the prices of black and white televisions and the prices of color ones saw an upward trend, the opposite trend was observed for average Japanese monthly salary. Looking at the graph, it is clear that the black and white televisions stood at 110, which was the highest point in revenue by 1970, and has remained the leader to 1980 at around 40. However, at the 10 following years, when the color televisions were introduced, the sales of single color televisions stayed in second highest position and declined sharply at about 30. Moreover, during the 10 years of this period, the top position was spent for the color televisions, and the figure also witnessed a sharp decrease up to nearly 40. Meanwhile, the Japanese salary gradually increased from about 18 in 1970 to approximately 30 by 1990.
By contrast, at the 10 final years, the average people’s salary experienced a considerable growth and reached at about 70. Moreover, the prices of both single televisions bottomed at around 20, which was 20 lower than prices of color televisions during the same period. Futhermore, the local salary in month experienced a sharp increase from 300 in 1990 to about nearly 70 by 2000.
